John McCormick

Artist, choreographer, programmer.

John McCormick is internationally recognised as one of the pioneers of new media dance, motion capture and telematic performance. He was awarded an Australia Council Fellowship (Dance) in 2007-2008 for realtime motion capture and networked performance. His work has been seen all over the world, including at peak festivals ZERO1SJ, ISEA, SIGGRAPH, Melbourne Festival and The Venice Biennale. He has also performed works at ICA London, Arnolfini Bristol UK, Monaco Dance Forum, the International Symposium on Art and Technology, DEAF and the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

He was a founding member of Company In Space, and Dancehouse Melbourne. He is an ongoing collaborator with Igloo UK. He was awarded an MA in Animation and Interactive Media from RMIT University. He is a lecturer in motion capture and dance at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

Adam Nash

Artist, composer, programmer.

Adam Nash (aka Adam Ramona in Second Life) is widely recognized as one of the most innovative artists working in virtual environments, realtime 3D and mixed-reality technology. He works primarily in networked real-time 3D spaces, exploring them as live audiovisual performance spaces and sites for data/motion capture and generative audiovisual environments. His work has been presented in galleries, festivals and online in Australia, Europe, Asia and The Americas, including peak festivals SIGGRAPH, ISEA, ZERO1SJ and the Venice Biennale. He was the recipient of the inaugural Australia Council Second Life Artist in Residence grant. He was awarded an Ars Electronica FutuerLab residency in 2009. He founded the Australian Centre for Virtual Art with Christopher Dodds, which runs labs and workshops for existing and emerging artists to explore virtual media. He was shorlisted for the National Art Award in New Media at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in 2008. He has worked as composer and sound artist with Company In Space (AU) and Igloo (UK), exploring the integration of motion capture into realtime 3D audiovisual spaces.

He is currently undertaking a PhD by Research at the Centre for Animation and Interactive Media at RMIT University, Melbourne, researching multi-user 3D cyberspace as a live performance medium. He is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Games and Digtial Art in the School of Media and Communications at RMIT University. He was composer, programmer and performer with The Men Who Knew Too Much from 1994-2002. He has performed drums, keyboards and vocals with many musical groups and bands in Australia and Japan, including Japanese noise-chaos collective Proud Flesh, Melbourne electro-dub outfit Half Yellow, Brisbane’s Choo Dikka Dikka (responsible for the legendary underground hit ‘Cyclone Hits Expo’) and Melbourne Concrete Poetry group Arf Arf, among others. He has been a writer and reviewer for Digital Media World magazine, and editor of the Computers and Internet department at LookSmart. He was also a Project Officer at com.IT, a community charity he helped to establish that recycles computers and redistributes them for free to NFPs domestically and overseas.

Nicole Lawther

Producer, artist, user experience designer.

Nicole Lawther has been working as a multimedia and user experience designer since 2000. She has been employed as a multimedia designer at Seraphim, Whytehouse Productions and the Ball Group. She is currently employed as the Senior User Experience Designer at MYOB Technology. She has been a lecturer at RMIT University in Multimedia and Games, as well as a Training Development Officer at the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. Her digital art work has been exhibited at the Thailand New Media Festival, and the Toronto Images Festival. She has a bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Monash University and an Advanced Diploma in Electronic Design and Interactive Media from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia.

Christopher Dodds

Artist, designer.

Christopher has an extensive background in design and interactive media though his Melbourne-based interactive design agency Icon.Inc. He holds a Master of Arts by Research from RMIT's Centre for Animation and Interactive Media, where his research focused on open source content, computer game modification, social networking cultures, virtual art and surveillance technologies.

He was a recipient, with Adam Nash and Justin Clemens, of the Australia Council's Inaugural Second Life Artists in residence grant which resulted in the BabelSwarm project in 2007/2008. He founded the Australian Centre for Australian Centre of Virtual Art with Adam Nash in 2009, with support from the Australia Council's Inter-Arts Office and Major Performing Arts board. He received a commission, with Adam Nash and Justin Clemens, from the National Portrait Gallery of Australia to produce a work called Autoscopia for the Second Life-specific Doppelganger exhibition.

Charles Kong

Programmer, Hidden Cove Solutions.

Charles Kong studied Electrical & Computer Systems Engineering at Monash University, Melbourne, and since then has been working in the telecommunicantions sector, in particular at Hidden Cove Solutions developing niche software solutions.

Vivek Aiyer

Director, Hidden Cove Solutions.

Vivek Aiyer is the founding director of Hidden Cove Solutions Pty Ltd and a
member of the SquareTangle commitee.

He has worked in several IT and Telecommunications planning and engineering
projects across three continents. Vivek's current role includes developing
new business and ensuring high levels of service on those projects.

Vivek received a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science degree from
the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology .
